Project Details
Due to Brookside Park’s centralized location within the state, the goal of this project was for Brookside Park to become a host site for weekend tournaments for traveling ball teams. The vision was to add three new fields, update an existing field, construct a concession stand with a press box, extend walking paths, and add additional amenities.
Abonmarche designed three new softball fields, pedestrian walkways which provided connectivity to the rest of the park, parking lot modifications, a lighting plan, and utilities. A challenge that presented itself during the design was the existing sewer main and water main that ran through the site which affected the placement of certain features. The original concept presented to Abonmarche by the committee placed the concession stand directly over these utilities. Abonmarche quickly developed a new plan that rearranged the fields while maintaining the concession stand in a centrally located area. Abonmarche also assisted the Committee in choosing amenities such as back stops, scoreboards, benches, and lighting.
During project construction, Abonmarche provided construction staking and worked closely with the contractor to make adjustments and field changes when needed. The contractor often presented options for value engineering to the team. Abonmarche would carefully consider these options and provide expertise regarding the effectiveness of the changes. This teamwork provided efficiencies in decision making which resulted in an overall cost savings for the client.
