Project Details
The City of South Haven contracted with Abonmarche to design and coordinate work on two projects that would revitalize the community’s North Beach Park. The projects focused on providing better recreation options and improved beach access for residents and visitors, as well as reconstructing Lakeshore Drive and improving area parking.
The Abonmache team developed a recreation design plan that was inviting and inclusive of all ages and ability levels, without causing disruption and negative impacts to the existing natural environment. North Beach Park is now ADA accessible to the water’s edge and provides safe and convenient circulation and parking for vehicles.
With the assistance of Abonmarche, the City was awarded a Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund (MNRTF) grant to help offset the costs of the beach improvements. The grant funds were used for benches, bike racks, picnic tables, recycle bins, landscaping and new signage – all of which transformed North Beach Park into an eye-catching, public draw.
The improvements and amenity upgrades to North Beach Park were a critical component to the city’s efforts to provide more diverse, community-wide, recreational opportunities along the beautiful shores of Lake Michigan for area residents and visitors.
